Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Maximum Wind Speed Using the Wind Multiplier Downscaling Method in the Yangtze River Inland Waterway from 1980 to 2017

Wind speed affects the navigational safety of Yangtze River, and assessing its spatiotemporal dynamics provides support for navigation management disaster prevention. We developed a wind multiplier downscaling method integrating effects land use topography, used meteorological station observations European Center Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Reanalysis Interim (ERA-Interim) reanalysis data statistical in River inland waterway region from 1980 to 2017. Compared with data, products showed improved accuracy (especially at 5–10 m/s), are consistent site-based interannual variability observations. Increasing maximum speeds middle–downstream area was observed 1990, while decreasing trend 2010 2017; opposite upstream. Land has significant influence on speed, year by above grade 9. Although proportion 4–8 over water is small not obvious, 9–10 displayed an increasing 2017, indicating that changes surface roughness have waterway.
